2020 is a very exciting year for FootActive! We are delighted to launch our new brand “ZULLAZ”. Under the name Zullaz we are introducing a new range of footwear, all of which will feature FootActive arch support technology.
DUE IN LATE JANUARY/MID FEBRUARY – ZULLAZ ORTHOTIC SLIPPERS
First up are Zullaz slippers, some of which will be arriving any day now. If you’ve benefited from wearing FootActive insoles in your everyday shoes, why not keep your feet supported around the house with our new Zullaz slippers?
People have been asking us for years to produce a premium quality advanced-design supportive slipper, and we are pleased to have now done so. We have been working closely with a Portuguese company to produce stylish orthotic slippers. Designed to provide both long-lasting durability and leading levels of comfort, they will be available in 12 different sizes, from 3-12 UK (36-47 EU) and in four different colours. The first arrivals will be the grey and blue slippers, with red and green ones due to arrive in mid-February.
Another great thing about these slippers is their use of recycled and sustainable materials. The upper part is made from a material called Eurelle/PETT, which feels just like wool but is in fact made from recycled plastic bottles. Up to 8 waste plastic bottles are recycled to make one pair of slippers. The PETT is certified by GRS (Global Recycled Standard) which guarantees the product is recycled and produced by a leading production chain that observes the highest standards.
Please see here for more information on how this process works. We haven’t stopped there……. The outsole is made from recycled rubber which gives a sturdy, non-slip base and will allow you to pop outside in your slippers without getting wet feet.
Combine these features with our fantastic arch support and the result is a truly great pair of slippers!
SANDALS ARE COMING!
Having introduced ladies’ orthotic flip-flops in 2018 we are excited and pleased

Feeling ready to hit the slopes?
The snow has already started falling in Europe, especially across the Alps, and a number of resorts are already open for the skiing season. If you’re going skiing soon, read on for some helpful tips about how to best prepare, and how to ensure your ski boots are as comfortable as possible.
Before you go
It is estimated that up to 125 million people around the world enjoy skiing and snowboarding each year, making the most of winter season. While many people find the exercise in the great outdoors an exhilarating and invigorating experience, there are a number of common foot injuries and complaints associated with the sport. These include ankle sprains, blisters, bruises and skiers’ toe – where there is bleeding under the toenails caused by the foot moving repeatedly within the ski boot, banging the toe nails against the front/top of the ski boot. Many of these conditions can be prevented by ensuring your ski boots fit correctly, assisted by an orthotic insole.
Exercises and fitness
It goes without saying that the fitter you are before your skiing trip, the more you will enjoy it, and it is recommended that you start exercising in preparation at least one month before you go. Whilst many people will hit the gym to tone up their leg and core muscles, they may not realise the benefit of exercises to strengthen the foot’s arch muscles, helping you to ski for longer, in greater comfort.
Ski boots
“Painful”, “uncomfortable”, “agony”, “toe-numbing” are just a few descriptions that may spring to mind when seeing those 2 words, mainly as a result of hiring or buying boots that do not fit properly.
When buying boots, it is likely you’ll spend a great deal of time ensuring a good, comfortable fit, and good ski shops will have specially trained staff to help you select the best boot for your foot shape and size. Hiring kit is often preferable for occasional skiers or when luggage space is limited, however in the rush to

Baby it’s cold outside!
So here comes the cold snap and on go our hats and gloves, and up goes the central heating. Extremes of temperature and moisture during the day along with long hot baths and showers to warm us up can all irritate and dry out our skin. Our natural protective barriers are attacked, stripping the skin of natural oils which can become chapped and dry. Our complexions can become dulled and flaky as the skin loses the ability to naturally regenerate, and our pores can become blocked, causing spots. Medication and ageing can also affect our skin’s natural barriers and elasticity.
The following tips can all help keep our skin moisturised, healthy and glowing as the winter sets in:
- Keep hydrated - from the inside out - by regularly drinking water, infused with lemon, lime or other fruits, or perhaps cucumber and mint. Water helps flush out toxins from the system and transports oxygen and nutrients to all organs including the largest of all, our skin. Green tea provides a useful source of antioxidants, which are known to protect the body against disease and are an important part of a healthy diet, whilst caffeinated and carbonated drinks can be dehydrating to the body.
- Healthy diet - eating lots of fresh fruit, vegetables including avocados, sweet potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and broccoli not only helps keep us hydrated but also provides a wide range of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and healthy fats which all combine to keep skin healthy, flexible and moisturised. Nuts and seeds also provide essential fats and acids while oily fish is a great source of vitamin E, an essential antioxidant in skin, along with omega-3 fats which help reduce inflammation, which can cause redness and acne. The great news is that dark chocolate containing over 70% cocoa solids has high levels of antioxidants, which may protect your skin against sunburn as well as improve skin texture, thickness and hydration. Reducing our intake of sugar can help reduce

Honey can heal?
Winnie-The-Pooh's over-obsession with honey has put the beloved bear in a number of sticky situations. Fearlessly climbing a tree to reach a pot of gold is nothing out of the ordinary. When scaling these trees and undoubtedly gathering a few cuts, would Winnie sacrifice a blob of honey for an innovative way of healing?
Pooh obviously knew a thing or two about honey, but not all honey comes packed with healing properties. Manuka honey on the other hand, certainly does. Winnie-The-Pooh may be fictional, but the healing properties of Manuka honey are quite the opposite!
What is Manuka honey?
Originating from the Leptospermum species of plant found in New Zealand, Manuka honey has been clinically proven to kill bacteria and further assist with wound healing.
First Honey® adhesive plasters and how they can help you:
Imagine a plaster that provides long-lasting infection protection and promotes faster, better healing.
Introducing First Honey® adhesive plasters: a new and innovative type of first aid.
How it works:
When placed over a scrape or cut, the Manuka honey within these skin-friendly plasters will effectively saturate the wound and instantly start to promote faster, better healing.
This then creates a moist and low pH environment which supports new tissue formation and wound healing by protecting from infection without a need for antibiotics.
First Honey® Skin Therapy Cream
Sometimes our skin doesn’t need to suffer a cut or scrape to require some TLC. As the days get colder and the weather gets harsher, our skin begins to suffer. Unlike Winnie-The-Pooh, we have no fur to provide protection. This makes our skin vulnerable to the outside world.
First Honey® Skin Therapy Cream is made with the highest quality, medical-grade Manuka honey - free from any contaminants and irritants. Manuka honey naturally contains bioactive properties that deeply moisturise the skin.
This nourishing cream quickly absorbs into dry and irritated skin, providing deep hydration

Your level of blood pressure will determine whether all the areas of your body is receiving the quantity of blood required for energy and movement. This is because red blood cells carry oxygen through the veins and arteries. Blood pressure is caused by the contraction of your heart muscle that pumps the blood. Thus, high blood pressure means that the heart muscle is working overtime to deliver blood, causing the heart to thicken and become less effective.
High blood pressure is known as hypertension and this will vary in severity. When it comes to your foot health, high blood pressure can have a great impact. Primarily, this is caused when peripheral vascular disease (PVD) causes blockages (this is sometimes referred to as peripheral arterial disease or PAD). PVD occurs as a result of high blood pressure, that damages the blood vessels and impacts their ability to carry the oxygen to all areas of the body.
High blood pressure is also commonly linked with diabetes. In fact, diabetics are 20 times more likely to have peripheral vascular disease than other people. If PVD and high blood pressure is not addressed, in severe cases, ulcerations can occur. These are likely to occur in the extremities of the body, thus the feet and the lower body.
Can High Blood Pressure Cause Swollen Feet?
High blood pressure rarely causes swollen feet or ankles itself. However, medication that is used to combat the effects of blood pressure, such as calcium channel blockers, can cause swollen feet and ankles. This is because they open up the network of arteries and vessels that the blood travels through, causing the appearance of swelling in the feet.
Can High Blood Pressure Cause Numbness In Feet?
Tingling and numbness in the feet and toes is quite common. In many cases, this is not a cause for concern as it may simply be caused by being in one position for too long, however, some people are more prone to this than others. If numbness persists or becomes painful, it could be a sign of

Smelly and stinky feet often attract all the wrong attention. Many people try to ignore the smell because it’s simply not nice, but it is important that it is addressed properly. Your stinky feet can be a key indication that your foot health or general hygiene is not quite up to scratch. You could be doing everything you need to get rid of foot odour, but it’s not quite passing muster. It is important to first understand what causes stinky feet, as the best way to get rid of foot odour is to avoid the cause.
The cause of foot odour is moisture and bacteria. Good bacteria are found naturally in the feet as they break down dead skin and other cells and molecules. When the bacteria are compromised by moisture (sweat), bad smells occur.
Therefore, foot odour most commonly occurs in the hot weather or high temperatures, but chronic sufferers experience year-round odours. Foot odour is also extremely prevalent (and hardest to get rid of) in those who are experiencing dramatic hormonal changes, namely pregnant women or teenagers going through puberty. Pregnant women also frequently suffer from swollen feet, which can make their footwear restrictive, which results in further sweating and smells. Unfortunately, this is not within your control, but you can manage or minimise your foot odour with the tips below.
Diabetic Foot health is also very important and foot odour can be quite common. Diabetics should be particularly cautious of any changes in their feet and should always consult their doctor as soon as possible. You are also more susceptible to foot odour if you suffer from hyperhidrosis. This is where the body sweats more than average, often as a result of stress or anxiety.
The Latest Tips on How to Get Rid Of Foot Odour

Absorbent Socks
Wearing absorbent socks in your shoes can help dry up sweat and leaves the good bacteria to do its job. Absorbent socks are often breathable, also. Avoid synthetic materials such as nylon as your sweat can’t evaporate and the material

Athlete’s Foot can be a continuous battle and is a common foot problem that most frequently occurs in men, those who wear tight-fitting shoes and socks or spend time barefoot in public spaces. If Athlete’s Foot is not attended to properly it can cause problems for other areas, including hands, nails and the groin.
It can cause a fair bit of pain, but not many people know that it can be easily treated at home before the infection spreads or causes more pain. That is why we've written a blog about Athlete's Foot home remedies, but first, let's define what Athlete's Foot actually is.
What is Athlete's Foot?
Athlete's Foot is a contagious fungal infection that is caused by a variety of fungi, which thrives in closed, warm and moist environments. It also feeds on keratin, which is a protein found in hair, nails and skin. So you can imagine that your foot is the perfect ground for it to grow.
Due to its contagiousness, it can quickly spread through direct contact with the infection and by skin particles left on things like towels, socks, shoes and even the floor.
Symptoms can include itchy white patches between your toes and it can also cause sore and flaky patches on your feet, which may become cracked or bleed causing foot pain. Athlete's Foot can also affect the soles and sides of your feet, causing painful blisters. If it's left untreated, the infection can then spread to your toenails, causing fungal nail infections.
Fortunately, the infection can be completely combated at home, and most often, natural remedies for Athlete’s Foot are the most effective treatment.
The fungal infection should be treated as soon as you notice any symptoms and you should only need to contact your GP when the problem persists or the infection spreads. They will then be able to prescribe steroid creams in extreme cases. If you have diabetes and are experiencing symptoms of Athlete’s Foot, contact your GP immediately, as this can be more complicated.
To prevent the infection from spreading,
